"Discover Laura Center" Open

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society is happy to announce the opening of their new "Discover Laura!" Hands-on Learning Center. The learning center is conveniently located in the Anderson school across the street from the Gift Shop and Tour Headquarters.

Visitors of all ages can try their hand at teaching school, packing a wagon, and writing their name using a writing guide as Mary would have. A trunk full of clothing, hats and bonnets awaits children who want to play dress up. After you are dressed you can pick vegetables from a garden, collect eggs and pretend to make supper on a historic stove.

If you still have time you can color, play checkers or listen to a staff member read from one of Laura's books. Check back to the News & Events page often to see what we have added to the Discovery Center!

Having fun in the Discover Laura Hands-on Center

Writing with a writing guide

After Laura's sister Mary became blind she used a metal writing guide to help her writeon paper with a pencil.
