The Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant

Please join us for this glimpse into America ’s pioneer past with pioneer girl, Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family.

The setting sun provides a wonderful backdrop for the outdoor pageant.  The pageant is held one mile southeast of De Smet.

2012 The Long Winter

Laura Ingalls and her family bravely face the long winter of 1880-81 in Dakota Territory. Blizzards cover the little town with snow, cutting off all supplies and soon there is almost no food left. The little town pulls together to survive and soon spring arrives. Finally in May, a joyous Christmas is celebrated in a very unusual way. “The Long Winter” is a heart warming story of Laura Ingalls and her family’s joys and struggles as they settle the Dakota prairie.

• For your comfort and pleasure bring jackets, the prairie evenings can get cool.

• Some seating is provided - may wish to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

• Concessions on grounds.

• Souvenirs and Programs available.

• Free wagon rides for the children.

• Visit with performers after the pageant.
