Visit Information

Welcome, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society is located in the heart of De Smet, South Dakota, Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little Town on the Prairie".

Historic Home Tours

Tours begin in the Gift Shop which is filled with many items any "Little House" fan will love.

We are open year round and offer guided tours of two original Ingalls family homes that are filled with hundreds of items that belonged to Laura and her family.  New on the tour is the First School of De Smet, the original school that Laura and Carrie attended.

Tour sizes are limited for your comfort and for the protection of our collection.  Tours leave on the hour and half hour and tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. We are happy to schedule your group tours, bus tours and school fieldtrips.

16 Point Driving/Walking Tour

There are 16 other sites in De Smet that Laura mentioned in her books that visitors may see. Follow the path on our map and read more about these interesting spots in De Smet.

Travel Itineraries

Let us help you plan your trip with one of our new travel itineraries.  We have it all planned out.  You just need to come and have fun!

Scavenger Hunt

If you enjoy a good riddle you will love our new Postcard Scavenger Hunt.  Pick up your $10 kit at the Gift Shop and follow the clues all over Laura's "Little Town" to collect 14 different postcards and complete your book.  This activity is guaranteed fun for the entire family.

Scavenger Hunt available from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
